Film Independent Global Media Makers

This program is supported by a grant through Global Media Makers, a partnership between Film Independent and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Global Media Makers is a cultural exchange program designed to foster relationships between American and international film professionals through comprehensive filmmaker education, business training, professional networking opportunities and tailored mentorships. Since the program’s inception in 2016, 128 Fellows have been served through GMM residencies and more than 450 U.S. Mentors from the entertainment industry have participated in the program to offer project support and networking opportunities and foster creative connections for GMM filmmakers. Past Creative Advisors and Mentors include Mollye Asher (Nomadland), Mercedes Yolanda Cooper (ARRAY), Eric d’Arbeloff (Roadside Attractions), Elissa Federoff (NEON), Rodrigo Garcia (Nine Lives, Albert Nobbs), Laura Kim (Participant), Alix Madigan (Winter’s Bone), Justin Simien (Dear White People), Lulu Wang (The Farewell) and more.

MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image)

MAMI has brought the best of contemporary world cinema and talent to Mumbai since 1997. The festival expanded its vision in 2023 to spotlight South Asian and South Asian diaspora filmmakers. Along with celebrating cinematic excellence, MAMI facilitates the exchange of ideas and provide access to information related to filmmaking, film distribution, business opportunities, and strategic marketing support for films and filmmakers.

MAMI also conducts a robust Year Round Programme (YRP) specially designed to enhance awareness and conversations around cinema from South Asia and across the world. MAMI YRP is a series of activities that keep its members connected with all things cinema. MAMI Members – a community of cinephiles, aspiring and working filmmakers, technicians, and new audiences – can access programmes focused on creating cinema-watching communities.

Indian Women Cinematographers’ Collective (IWCC)

The Indian Women Cinematographers’ Collective is a forum by and for craftswomen/ technicians of the film industry, based in India. We intend to make a difference in the industry through our growing numbers, and we believe this is possible only when we stand together. The Collective is also designed for contemporaries to showcase their diverse body of work. We extend our solidarity to not just our fellow craftswomen, but also to the non-cis male technicians and workers in the film industry.
